For over three decades, Nick has dedicated his career to the food industry, traversing the intricate journey that is today’s global food chain. From an early interest in farming, to studying Food Science at Reading University and establishing a career in NPD. He has made significant contributions to the commercial success of some of the UK most well-known brands and the health of the UK consumer through innovation such as Benecol, targeting cholesterol control, formulation adaption of Slimfast weight control to support its rapid international growth and new market access and industry leading work in the sweetener market.

His expertise links food and nutrition or added health benefits a high growth consideration for brands and Private Label owners. Some of Nicks, proudest moments include establishing a pilot plant-based food facility at a leading UK based science park, playing a critical role in the development of what is now a household brand in Quorn and the mycoprotein application. in addition to managing the internation food network supporting international clients rapidly developing science-based solutions to overcome technical development challenges. His ultimate goal has always been to create solutions that get innovation over the line and into the marketplace.

 

Throughout his extensive career, Nick has been fascinated by food production, its robustness and agility to develop solutions at pace. Whilst every challenge is different the delivery of a successful outcome is equally rewarding regardless of project complexity. A hands-on approach, working strategically and practically with multi skilled teams is an essential element of the industry that excites Nick. Culinary creativity and how it is increasingly influencing food innovation and the consumer sensory experience becoming increasingly relevant alongside the developing application of AI.

Nick describes himself as a food scientist by nature an experience, continually searching for ways to work better, work smarter and deliver better outcomes or experiences. Recognising that the only constant is change, and the essential elements of embracing change for the good.
