S4RB, the leading provider of Supplier Collaboration software, and the Customer focused food and grocery consultancy, Prof. Consulting Group, today announced a partnership. For brands looking to accelerate their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) journey, the partnership provides an integrated approach of practical advice that demystifies sustainability, and a software platform and process that maximises supplier engagement.
Two-thirds of the average company’s environmental and social impact lies with its suppliers (McKinsey). For FMCG brands, it can even be as high as 98%. Therefore, it’s a no-brainer that brands need to work with all their suppliers to achieve their ESG goals,” said James Butcher, S4RB CEO.
“The complexity of identifying the real issues that are materially important to FMCG brands, combined with the complexity of the modern supply chain can result in organisational inertia. Our partnership with Prof. Consulting Group brings together the knowledge and capabilities to help brands overcome this in a pragmatic way.”
FMCG retailers, brands and manufacturers are under increasing pressure from their customers, investors, employees and civil society, to make measurable progress in becoming more responsible and sustainable. Last November, COP26 drove several businesses to make public commitments which centred on carbon emissions and responsible sourcing.
However, many firms find these commitments difficult to achieve when facing unprecedented systemic strain on their business models caused by rising commodity prices, COVID and international trade disputes. ESG talent is hard to find, leaving businesses struggling to know where to begin, let alone being able to implement action plans which achieve their ESG goals.
These circumstances compound a situation where over 80% of emissions from consumer goods come from the supply chain, but less than 25% of companies engage with the suppliers to address these emissions, and only 9% of companies can measure their carbon footprint.
“Businesses need to understand their customers’ ever-evolving demands and to prioritise the issues that matter most,” said Mark Field, Prof Consulting Group’s Founder and CEO.
“Whether it is reducing carbon emissions, eliminating unnecessary plastics, or promoting a more responsible supply chain, they require a brand to engage with all suppliers and not just the top 20%. However hard that may be.”
“And that’s why our partnership with S4RB excites me.” Mark continues. “S4RB’s award-winning Supplier Collaboration Platform and Process complement our teams’ International FMCG experience, expertise and passion for growing brands. Together we can help a brand identify the issues that are important for their customers and deliver positive impact by collaborating with their suppliers at pace and scale utilising our global team of ESG specialists, all with significant industry and FMCG experience.”
S4RB and Prof Consulting Group both operate internationally with clients such as Woolworths (Australia), Walgreens Boots Alliance and Walmart on their books.
