Delivering that New Retail Buyer Meeting with Success!

Congratulations! You’ve won that initial retailer meeting you have been trying to achieve over recent months, that big opportunity and potentially one of the most high-pressure meetings of the year so far, are you ready? In our latest short article, we share some proven tips to help maximise your success and unlock long term opportunities.

The opportunity to meet with a trade buyer outside the traditional range review calendar gives you the ability to start forming a relationship, introducing your business, showcasing capability, product range and your reason to win. Critically it’s a perfect platform to gain insights into the challenges the buyer sees and the untapped consumer problems that need to be address, something that can be missed by an over excited sales manager focused on delivering a slide heavy corporate presentation

HOW CAN YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY?

Let’s assume you have 30 minutes for the initial meeting and the agenda or purpose is business introduction.

THE TRADITIONAL APPROACH
Introduction – 5 minutes

  • Slide presentation – The previous approach relied on a 25-minute slide presentation that was often dense with text. This tended to overcomplicate the message and risked losing the buyers’ attention
  • Little time left for questions, insights, or next steps—often rushed or skipped

THE MODERN APPROACH

Introduction – 5 minutes

Deliver a focused 10-minute corporate presentation using 7-10 slides. These slides need to be visually engaging and concise. Instead of crowding the slides with text, expand on key points during the presentation.

Spend 10 mins listening – gaining valuable insights to help you win. What’s the category manager seeing, where is the category going, and what consumer problems need solving

Two very different approaches that clearly frame different outcomes and positioning of your business
